    LOLOLOL at will!!

Oh man, I've always wondered if snakes have the capability to get high, I've just always thought it was too much of a crackpot idea to post! That and I keep forgetting to look it up the next morning ;) Kidding!

I don't know much of anything about reptile biology compared to mammals, but I'm assuming that THC would have some sort of an effect if they have the right receptors in their brains. Considering how simple their bodies are, they probably don't even have a blood-brain barrier, so you could risk totally perma-frying an animal if it does affect them. One hit for a human blown into the cage would be like a roomful of smoke for them.

Update: a google search shows that some random guy states that "reptiles lack a blood-brain barrier" but I dunno about the validity. Also, I'm not a biology major (yet) so I could be waaaay off.

    Oh, about BBB: http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/bbb.html

"A smoker would theoretically have to consume nearly 1,500 pounds of marijuana within about fifteen minutes to induce a lethal response."

A reptile sans BBB would not have this defense against getting utterly and entirely too high

I remember that pic Will, lol.

The better question here is: Will cannabis fix feeding problems?

In all seriousness. I rescued a carpet python where the owner would blow marijuana smoke into the snake's enclosure because he wanted to see it get high. The snake suffered severe nuerological damage. It couldnt climb because all the smoke messed up its motor function. It coulnt eat either so it died not too long after i got it. Smoking weed might be fun but dont do it around your herp. Would you smoke weed in the same room as an infant i dont think so. Smoke it outside smoke it in another room or even better dont smoke it at all. Geeez i feel like i am in a forum with a bunch of pot heads LOL.

Well spoken, Damien. I'm sorry to hear about your rescue...but it's valuable experience and I'm glad you were able to share.

It's pretty retarded to blow smoke at any of your pets IMO - borders on sadistic. Save the smoke for yourself.

    Snake Kills Local Child.
I knew a guy who ruined a tankful of fish (45g hex) by stumbling and dropping a hit of LSD into the tank, years ago. Talk about a bunch of weird-behaving fish. Swimming sideways and all kinds of stuff. It was obvious there was neuro damage.

Will, yeah, the thing is that he really had to wait for the next day to be sure the fish were doing what he saw them doing. :)

Hehe same thing happened to a friend at VA Tech sorta - another guy dropped some gel into a mudskipper's tank. It lived but from that point on became a ragingly mean little creature that would charge out of the water and go for you whenever anything approached the tank. Bizarre and yeah cruel - so if you ever hear of the legendary dose fish . . .

I'm making light of this maybe more than I ought to - it's pretty thoroughly uncool to experiment on your pets - unless youare one of those Dahmer types that gets off on it.
