Man i hate shows like this all it does is instill the fear of snakes in general. Even my wife who picked out our latest ball python is having doubts. This show is informative all its doing is showing how snakes attack people. When we all know that these people who had these "accidents" as a result of their own carlessness. I dont know what else to say but i am really disappointed that they didnt show more scientific facts about these magnificent creatures.

here are some numbers for 1998:

    — Dog bites: 15 fatalities

    — Fireworks: 13 fatalities

    — Hornets, wasps and bees: 46 fatalities

    — Lightning: 63 fatalities

    — Falling earth: 55 fatalities

    — Falling objects: 723 fatalities

    — Falling into a hole or other openings: 95 fatalities

    — 337 people died in bathtubs.

    - In 1997

    - The leading cause of accidental deaths in this country (43,200) was related to motor vehicles.

    - Accidental firearms-related deaths (1,500) was seventh on the list.

I cant come up with an average for boid related deaths, but from what I can gather it is around 10 per year.

If your going to be afraid of somthing, be afraid of cars.

    Thanks - Great Post
If that is an average number of deaths by constrictor per year, then it must be including the entire world in the statistics. A study of North American stats shows only eight confirmed deaths by constrictor in North America in the last twenty five years.

In the 1990's, there was an average of 15 deaths per year caused by venomous snakes...but boids did not even blip on the statistical radar for the entire decade.

the show was kinda instresting...with the xray and stuff. but most of the attacks they shown were caused by mistakes of the keeper. at least they said fatalities caused by constrictors happens rarely

That does sound more accurate Judy. I seached for a while and one site said 10-15 a year which didnt sound right, but there ya have it.
Its absurd that people are so dead set against snake. With media like today though I cant really blame them.
    People are ignorant...
