I keep saying I'm going to start using that stuff, but I'm stubborn and hate to fix things that aren't broken.
Bah, I'm going to grab some up tomorrow and throw some in the tubs, Thanks Monica :gj:

Question: Since you are using a stand for your light diffuser why do you need the media(hatchrite/perlite/vermiculite) at all? Could you simply fill the bottom with 1 1/2" of water with a couple vent holes? Or would that encourage molding?

The perlite is to keep the water from splashing around.

This prevents any issue of sinking into the perlite and allows you to add enough water that it almost starts to pool at the top under the grate. You can see in pic #2 that I only have to use about 1 1/2 inches or so of the substrate since I can add so much water to it.

Do you just buy the plastic cross-stitch canvas at Michael's or another fabric store?

I also use the cross-stitch canvas....it works like a charm. It's extremely cheap too. Michael's has it for like $0.20/sheet.

Yep. Any craft/hobby store sells it. It's flexible and easily cut with scissors.

Thanks. Using the plastic cross-stitch canvas will be a lot quicker than cutting the PVC pipe to length and much cheaper than a second layer of light diffuser.

I use 1-1 1/2 inches of vermiculite with the cross stitch/light diffuser set up. I use press & seal with no air holes. Humidity too high? I don't see how that's a problem.

I put them in the incubator sealed tight and do not open them until day 50. I just peal back a corner of the wrap and put it back in. Check them every other day. 100% hatch rate.
