    Oh okay, I see what you mean! Today i'm going to buy a dimmer for my under tank heater, and keep a constant check on it. And i'll also return all three hides from petco, and buy three identical cave-like hides.

    You can also use a lamp stand. They allow you to raise or lower the lamp which lowers our raises the amount of heat in the cage. They also help to extend the life of the bulb because you are not constantly moving the lamp around which also keeps constant heat entering the cage where it is needed. They are also safer since you don't have to set the hot lamp down and take the risk of melting or burning something. Almost every tank lid with plastic edges has a melted spot from people placing the lamp directly on top, these prevent that. Should be $20 at both big box stores.
