LoL, Ol Roy is what we feed our dogs, my dad is still a little on the cheap side, and doesn't believe me that it would be more cost effective and better for our dogs if we fed them a higher quality food like purina. Oh well, the dogs are 11 and 12 years of age so it's not like they have been starved on the crappy stuff :) The gerbils are eating it for the moment because I haven't had time to go out and buy some gerbil food. I really need to though, it's just so expensive for such a little bag. There is a feed store downtown that I can go to and it's pretty cheap there. They sell it in bulk. And true, I know gerbils don't get very big, but my boyfriend's roommate, who I am breeding them for, his bp isn't very big right now, so it works out I guess. We're going to be breeding rats sometime, and also fancy rats. We have a hairless boy, he's so funny looking, but adorable just the same. I hope we get some hairless babies. But anyway, sorry for rambling on.

Eukanuba high-performance Rat Niblets! Gives them a glossy coat and whiter teef!
Just kidding - we use the generic rat/mouse food they have in the monster buy-bulk bins at the decent pet place.

Red dye found in most dogfood is bad for our snakies, as they cannot process it. It builds up in their systems, and is unhealthy. Ole Roy has no red dye, thus is reputed to be safe.
As far as breeding rats-------1 male + 1 female= tons of rats. I started out with 1.3 rats last August or so. I just sold 21 various sized rats to a kid locally, and here is what I have left, after feeding 8 bp's, 2 boas, and two kingsnakes for the past few months:

I feed them a variety of food such as the regular gerbil diet, veggies and occasionally dog food which is great for their teeth, to make sure they are healthy and fat
Aww I dont know if you would want something great for there teeth if ur giving it to ur snake :|

Well, if it's healthy for their teeth, then it makes them healthy for your snake's teeth and bones, too. So long as you're not feeding live, then healthy teeth on a rat are a very good thing.

Geeez.... that's a whole lot of rats... and rat poop..
I had no clue they could live in those kinds of conditions.
