I use hemostats to drop the prey in the enclosure in front of the hide, but nobody seems to require the mouse zombie dance in my household anymore. ;)

So how will I know when the mouse is hot enough? How long do you leave it in the hot water or under the desk lamp?

Thanks everybody for all your help. It's appreciated.

Normal body temp for mice and rats is 98.6, just like ours. If your temp runs normal, you should be able to check temp with your wrist or the inside of your elbow well enough (not hands) and if it feels the same or slightly warm it should be fine. For me this works out to two bowl fills (dump between when water cools) of hot tap water (~120F) for 1-2 mice, three times for 3-4 mice. You can then superheat under desk lamp (~6" away) for just about 1 minute per side if desired. As far as doing it entirely with a lamp, someone else will have to pitch in with times and wattage because I've never done that.

I seal-a-meal my mouse and turn on the hot water and let it run over it for about 10 mins on each side and it seems to heat it up real good. This is starting with the mouse already thawed.
Haven't had one "pop" yet :)
