I think something is wrong with my snake's belly
Step 1) Get a thermostat for the heat mat. I'll never understand why people think their heat mat is different and can't burn their snake. Unless it is an ultratherm, it gets too hot to run unregulated.

Step 2) Switch to paper towels until the next shed and monitor her belly.

Step 3) Do a full clean out every month, not every 3 months.

Thank you so much everyone for all the advice and taking the time out of your busy lives to help me. I've put down paper towels and removed the mat. Thanks again everyone!

the snake would probably appreciate the heat pad, maybe getting a thermostat would be your best option?

I use a hydrofarm t-stat. not the greatest but it will work and it's cheap on amazon. I'll attach a link. There are lots of different t-stats out there. Search Ranco, VE, Helix, Herpstat.

I will definitely look into that. For right now I have the lighting going and the mat hooked to a lamp dimmer set as low as possible. Probe is reading 85 right I'm the glass over the mat. Im also looking into getting a humidity gauge. She always sheds in one piece so I don't think im too far off. Plus I keep a large bowl of water in there and 2/3 of the screen lid covered with a towel. Thanks alot for your help, she has calmed down immensely.

I have two of these and I like them. There is about a 2 degree swing of temps though but it's not an issue.

For humidity and temp I have an accurite and it seems to work well. A lot of members on here recommend it.
