Re: feeding inside terrarium or in seperate container?
Feeding in the enclosure CAN condition the snake to be aggressive. But it takes a long time and very special circumstances. This can only happen if you approach the tank to feed the snake and no other time. But obviously this would NEVER happen because responsible pet owners will check up on the snake and clean up the messes. So basically it's impossible to condition the snakr to become "cage aggressive".

Re: feeding inside terrarium or in seperate container?
thanks for all the thoughts everyone!! the only other concern i had is i feed them live hopper or fuzzy mice and it makes me a little anxious to think about the mice scrambling around the enclosure until they get snapped up:confusd:
Re: feeding inside terrarium or in seperate container?
I personally feed outside of the enclosure (for other reasons than cage aggression). I will say though that with one of my snakes I feel like there has been a change in "ferocity" since I changed his feeding up a bit. I do not know if this is coincidence or not, but I started out feeding my male Mojave in a separate enclosure (very strong feeding response and no hesitation eating when moved into a different tub); his temperament in his enclosure was fine and he mostly hid. There was no "feeding" response when I got near his enclosure or when I opened the lid and he didn't bother to check out what I was doing at all. I have only had him for about a month, but about two weeks ago I was in a rush to leave and decided to feed him inside of his enclosure so I could just shut it once he constricted (F/T). Since that day (or maybe after one more feeding in his enclosure), he pokes his head of his hide, or crawls onto his branch, and gets into a feeding posture whenever I open the tub. It is not a fear striking position, as I've seen when he's scared and tries to kill my face. I feed an appropriate sized rat every 4-5 days, therefore I doubt it's because he is starving. This whole ordeal could be due to him getting more comfortable in the new environment and in his new enclosure, so I definitely cannot say it is DUE to me feeding him in his tub, but I did find it interesting.
Now, with that said, my other three have shown absolutely no difference in those couple weeks with how they react when I go into their enclosure even though they too have been fed in there. They still stay balled up and only get excited when they are actually being fed. I have had no issues with them eating poorly due to moving them into separate containers either. Therefore, my opinion is that you should do what you are comfortable with as long as the snake's well-being isn't jeopardized in doing so, i.e. won't eat due to stress of being moved into a different box.
Side note: I think a lot of people feed in the enclosure due to ease as well. If you have a large collection of snakes, I'd imagine it'd almost be impossible to move all of them into a separate enclosure in order to feed them.
