How long do you usually leave a new pick up alone???

Maybe its because I'm new but I give mine about a day to get settled then handle a little bit each day for just a couple minutes and offer food when the person I get the snake from tells me is the day they would have fed them. If they act skid dish I give them more time to get comfu but I tell ya its hard for me not to handle a new arrival. And I haven't had any problems with them. I'm no expert but I have seven snakes and they all eat great.

I leave alone for 24 hours, then offer food the next night! Then leave alone for for two days then I start handling every day! So far 2/3 have ate with that method so like others have said depends on the snake!

When i got all my babies i fed them the next day after i got them, and if they ate i would wait a week and if they didn't eat i would wait untill they finally eat, then wait a two days. I was just wondering if you guys wait less time for adults.

If anything I would wait a little longer with adults. They seem already set in their ways. If you get one from a breeder that never handled them, then you would have to go slower.

For me it depends on the type of snake. I usually feed my new colubrids the day I get them (little hogs!) and handle them 48 hours later. With balls I leave them alone for a week with minimal handling. I left my boa alone for a couple days and then he ate first try.

So far I haven't had any snakes shipped to me, and they've all be babies, which may have an impact on how they settle in. That being said, I take it on a case by case basis. If the snake seems shy, stressed, or otherwise uncomfortable, I leave them alone, offering food when they seem to be ready (head poking out of hide, watching my movements, or actively looking for food). I start handling as the snake seems comfortable with me doing so. So far all 4 of my balls have eaten within their first week of being with me, and so far none of them have objected to few minutes of handling a day or every other day to make sure all is well, even within the first week.

i had to get rats for the babys so i picked her up a frozen med rat and she took it now hesitation looks like everything going good

I got my spider girl yesterday and held her a little last night and offered food just now and she didn't hesitate on a live rat pup. I'm going to try not to walk right into a post in the completely out of context thread, but I enjoy handling them and enjoying their colors and patterns. What I do is handle them when they come in, to ensure no obvious kinks, head/face deformities, or noticeable RI symptoms. I'll open their tub 2 days later to see how they react. Sometimes they get really twitchy, or they'll hiss. That's how I know to give them a bit. They get offered food at the same time everyone else does, and if it just so happens to arrive on feeding day, I'll attempt. If the snake is exhibiting a shy personality, I'll let them eat a few meals before taking them out to handle. Handling can be very stressful for them if they're extremely shy, so I work slowly with them :gj:.

Depends on the snake. In general, i do about the same thing as Travis.
