Dog and snake diseases?

The vet told me not to keep birds and reptiles in the same room, more for the health of the bird. Also said to wash hands after touching the reptiles before touching the bird.

I don't know about cold vs warm blooded ticks, but I have seen ticks on a snake before. And they just looked like the same sort of tick found in dogs. Perhaps it's just a different species.

The thing about parasites, those who prefer your epidermis to your innards, is that they like to taste to make sure you're what they want for dinner before actually dining. They take 'samples' even of the wrong species and once is all it takes to transfers those little beasties that our arachnid pals as hosts. You will probably never have this happen or even know anyone it's happened to, but it is possible.

did someone do research on this? I would like to read it. I listen to a talk radio show and dr scott stahl didn't think there was much of a concern with the parasites in rodents that are feed to your snake. here's the link I hope it still works, it's long but very good.

From what I can find, we only have 3-4 types of ticks around me. I can't find anything saying that any of them latch in one type of animal over another. I do know snakes in the wild here can get ticks.

I'm just looking for my own because it had me wondering. I'm not trying prove anyone wrong or right :p

The main ticks around here are deer ticks.

Oh don't forget ringworm!! Dogs can give you this very easily. I'm not sure if the fungus would grow on a snake.
