I'm so bad with all the terms for different rat and mouse sizes/ages. Rat pup, meaning it still doesn't have its eyes open and ears are still folded? You can leave it in there for some time if it's very young like that since they're pretty harmless at that age. It will stay alive with the warmth of the tub for a while. (But if you're like me, you start feeling guilty for the thing and praying the snake will just strike already so you don't have to figure out what to do with the crazy rat pup if the snake is off food!)

Ok, so hot spot should be 90. Yes, ambient should be 80. Get a heat lamp, or turn up the heat in the room.
You need to get the skin off the tip of the tail before it does damage. Try gently rubbing it with a damp paper towel.
Your bp sounds stressed. Climbing and exploring is not typical bp behavior. The saying goes "A hiding bp, is a happy bp". Get the shed off, then either give him more hides, or put some crumpled newspaper to clutter up the tank. Then, leave him be completely alone for a week.
Not sure of the size of your snake, but sounds young. So your next feeding attempt get an appropriate sized live rat fuzzy/pup (with eyes still closed) and put it in with your bp at night, turn off the lights, leave the room, and you will probably find the rat gone in the morning. (And feed him in his own enclosure.)
Good luck, and keep us posted. :)

This has been so helpful I really appreciate all the help that you have all given me, thank you very much DrDooLittle I will get that extra shed off within the next 24 hours... is that too long? I will definitely keep this updated over the next few days, or until he eats! how long until I should be concerned for the snakes health? just curious...

I'm a newbie at this too, but just wondering if maybe he's used to eating adult mice instead of rat pups? I've learned on here that some BPs are strictly MOUSE eaters and won't touch rats. Just a thought!

OK so I think i've made an important discovery, after I soaked the snake for about 30 minutes I got all the remaining shed off, he looks amazing. very happy. BUT as i pulled him out of the water I noticed a tiny black bug running up his back!! I imagine these are mites? Could this be why he isn't eating??
