I now have questions. When he bought the lizard he also got what they classified as leopard gecko food, which consists of dried flies and some vitamins. All the care sheets I have read talk about mealworms and crickets, no mention of this food. Would it be ok to feed it this food? What would be the best food, I have read so many conflicting reports? Advice is needed and wanted! Thanks in advance.

Go with what the care sheets from reputable sources (such as breeders) say. That rule applies to any herp, as far as I'm concerned. Leos will lick calcium from a dish, so you don't have to worry as much about dusting their food with it, though dusting with a vitamin supplement is a good idea, just make sure there's only vitamin D in one or the other, not both.

    Congrats MacWin family,.
Your new baby is very cute!!!
Just so you know there is a very good chance that that gecko is of Tremper stock:::

It is policy of PetSmart corperate to order mainly from CRAP (center for reptile and amphibian propagation)
    Its a 75 / 25 chance.

On the feeding note. I never recommend feeding the "over the counter" foods for reptiles, as they are not domesticated such as cats and dogs, and insects work best
    Just my two cents

    Does Home Depot sell?
Thanks for the input Rusty, I wasn't too keen on the little dry bugs they didn't look tasty that is for sure. Does everyone else powerfeed your crickets before feeding them to your geckos? If so how? I have so many questions. I have been reading so many care sheets and have a good idea on what I want to do.

I give my crickets (for the crested geckos) various foods such as moistened dry cat or dog food, black beans, small apple pieces, small bits of turkey, things like that which are high in protein and low in fat, moist enough to provide some water in addition to the cricket water globs. They haven't turned down anything I've given them so far but I want to keep it nutritious.

I feed crickets to my beardie, and I powder them each time...a calcium supplement each day and about every other day I add a multi-vitamin supplement as well. I started out putting the powder in a ziplock baggie...dropping a few crix into the bag...then shake-n-bake. Problem was, it was hard to get the crickets out of the bags and into the cage without dropping some gobs of powder into the cage as well. Eventually, I bought a special little cup at PetCo that lets you shake up the crix and powder, but then collects the powder at the bottom and holds it there while you dump out the bugs. Much easier than those baggies! :D

Judy, what's the cup called? I've been just getting the powder to one corner, getting all the crix out of that corner, then folding it over while I shake them out. The cup sounds like it might be easier, but I don't remember seeing one at the store.

It came bundled with some powder called Herpcare...by a company named Mardel. I didn't really care to pay for the powder, since I already have some I like...but I figured I'll run out eventually and can use that when I do. I don't know if the cup itself had some specific name. The cup is just tall enough that even the big aggressive crix can't jump out of it. It has a false bottom. 1/2 of it filters the powder back to the bottom, and the other half is covered to hold the powder down while you dump out the crix. To me, it was worth the extra $$ I paid for it.

Thanks for all of the advice. I will have to go and get me one of those cups. I have the the calcium powder. Well I decided to name my gecko cricket cause he hops like a cricket and loves to eat crickets. He is a really good eater as well, it is so exciting.

That's a good name for him. :) And Judy, thanks for the tip on the cup. My Kricket Keeper finally came from Reptile Depot, so now I shouldn't have to hold any more crickets!
