    I think it is a good idea to try. The benefit of trying two rows of 3-inch flex watt, is that it gives you the option to remove a row if it doesn't seem correct. Or even add a row if you feel you need to go up to 9 inches of coverage. I think you'd have to try it, set up a dummy tub, and see what kind of readings you get.

    I personally think 6 inches of belly is too much in a shoe Box tub. It won't provide enough gradient IMHO

    Tubs are only around 12 or 13 inches long. If you cover half of that with Flexwatt, there isn't enough room for the cool side to be cool. This is why I use back heat in PVC 6qt racks. It provides more room for a thermo gradient from the warm side to the cool side.

    You could always have a 3" row on the hot side at 90 and another 3" row on the cool side that stays at 78 to make sure the cool side doesn't get too cold. You would just need two thermostats or one with two probes.
