Well i just got back from the vet. Bertha will live but she has a nasty infection. The Doc gave me 10 syringes of baytril to be administered in the muscle tissue every 2 days. I just hope she bounces back from this quick. She lost a good chunk of weight that i didn't notice before. Thank u all for the positive thoughts. And sounds good nick. just send me a text i got the reptile/rodent/bug room almost done. Ull have to come see it and meet the reptilian side of my family. And no not my mother in law but close lol.

I'm glad she's gonna make it for you, and for sure I'd love to see your reptilian family members Haha, have you produced any babies this year? Ha I still laugh at finding you on here some reason I didn't know you kept so many d snakes I knew there was a reason we get along so well :) haha so ya expect me to visit when I'm up there and I expect the full tour of snakes and feeders and it seems like I need to meet your better half not sure if I've meet her before.

These are very resilient animals. I had a baby get a scratch in it's mouth for a rat toenail. Poor things head swole up huge, I was able to express most of the abscess through the wound site and treat with Baytril, made a full recovery and never missed a beat. I've seen even worse wound's than that and had them live surprisingly so.. Just remember to bump the temps up a little and keep the tubs super clean and super clean water at all times..

The temps are bumped and she is in a clean new tub. The swelling went down a little since last night just from a cue tip with hydrogen peroxide on it. she is acting a little lethargic but that disappeared when she got stuck lol. Thanks for the tips freakie frog. The vet said expect the swelling to drastically disappear by thursday or friday so im hopin for the best.

Bill T that is good news! I hope she recovers quickly. Did the vet have any opinion of why? I am curious.

Kitedemon. The vet said it can be as simple as a small scratch when eating or a tooth may have loosened up. Almost anything. His snake had it once his assistants bp got it etc. Ive never seen it swell that quick myself but he is the expert lol. He was great. No hesitation just stuck his hand in the tub and grabbed her lol. the price tag was decent too. it cost me $48.04 for the visit and 20 days of injections for her. A small price for my best breeder female i think. If there is anyone in the northern MN area i would highly recommend him. Hopefully i wont have to visit him for awhile but its nice to know that we have a great snake doc in the area who loves herps.

I have had a snake drop a tooth at the vets once but never had an infection like yours developed. I have done a lot of rescues over the years and seen all kinds of issues but this isn't something I have encountered yet. It is great when you find a good vet I too am fortunate to have a great vet near me whom is also reasonably priced. My bearded dragon has had a number of visits and his antibiotics and visit costs often run about the same 50$. keep us posted as she improves! :)
