Is this a Calico?

Wow, Mark! Love the Black Pastel Calico! That snake is only going to get better as its colors come in. The high white calico is sweet, too. I've found in my clutches that all the calicos in a clutch turn out on the high side or the low side, but things will be more obvious after a few sheds.

    Congrats!

Thanks Maki! Of course this wouldn't have been possible without you producing the awesome parents of this clutch. I had a good close look at all of the babies from this clutch today. The Black Calico looks like it is going to be a stunning example of the morph, better than the ones on WOBP. :D The Black Pastel is also top shelf IMO.

I managed to pop the high white Calico and am pretty confident that it is a female. We'll see how the supposed low white Calicos turn out after a few sheds. Do you find a head stamp an indicator of the Calico morph? They do have some pink on the sides (and head stamp), but this being my first time seeing just hatched Calicos, I can't be 100% at this time.

Oh wow, is that the black pastel female from me? I haven't done much with the darker busier morphs like black pastels lately, but now I wish I'd involved them in my projects.

As for the calicos, I don't pay much attention to the heads. The colors give them away. I'm going to guess that the low whites will turn out to be normals, but you should keep them around for a few sheds to be sure. The other calicos and the black pastel calico are unquestionable and stunning. You'll love watching the colors develop on those over the first year. Congrats on getting a female!

Thanks all! They're all in blue right now so I'll update once they shed out. I'm also now leaning towards the ones I thought of as being low white, as normals, after I took off my proud papa rose-colored glasses.

Yup, she's the one I got from you. I was initially trying for a Super Black Pastel, but my Hypo Black Pastel male wasn't up to it last year. I actually bred a Mojave to her all season, and threw in the Calico a few weeks before she ovulated, and he managed to get the job done (he's an absolute stud!). Don't sleep on the dark morphs! I absolutely love them. If the Black Calico turns out to be a male, he'll have a date with a Sulfur Sable!

Bonus pic of them when they were pipping!

The two supposed low white calicos have shed and they appear to be perfectly normal!

Update hopefully tomorrow on the rest of the clutch.

Helluva clutch! I bet it's torture playing the "guessing/wait and see" game as to whether you're gonna hit your jackpot snake in the clutch. I'm sure I'll go through a similar turmoil in a couple years when I shoot for the MYSTIC POTION and/or SUPER MOJAVE/SUPER MYSTIC.

It's totally frustrating, but also adds to the fun and mystery of these morphs! I'm still not 100% on a couple from my first clutch.

I know it's cliche, but these pictures do NOT do these snakes justice. The yellow is washed out and they are both actually a very bright, nuclear yellow in color. Good luck with your future endeavors SnakeGuy! You'll be in an envious dilemma.
