Make sure the temps are not going to low. The weather changing can cause your enclosure to drop with out realizing it. A shock of weather change can hamper the feeding pattern young balls. I hope this helps! :-)

A few of my balls will do the exact same thing. They will kill it and then leave it there for awhile before actually eating it. One of my big females is a huge example of this. She will kill it, then drag it all around the tub, if you even walk by she will stop and stare at you until you're gone... then she'll leave it for another 10-20 mins before eating it. I would just let him take him time eating it, some have different methods than others.

If the substrate of your animal's enclosure is bothering you, try replacing it with paper towels to see if you can get him to feed for a couple of solid weeks without worrying about substrate-mouth. Substrate-mouth never bothers my animals, though. They get it every time they feed (aspen bedding) and they're fine a few hours after.

Agreed with the above though. One of my snakes in a see-through tub will kill her meal and if I am ANYWHERE in the room, she'll ignore it. If you have the ability to get a solid colored tub that might help too.

I've tried all the suggested techniques in the past- putting a black towel over the sterlite & inside the enclosure for a few hours & even over night. He still wouldn't eat. I think he's just picky, hopefully he will grow out of this. Lol. Thanks y'all! :gj:
