Why are my males dying???

    My supply is fairly new, a couple weeks at most. I dont think its the diet as my females are seemingly unaffected but that could change I guess. Just keeping my eye on them. Hopefully it is just some crazy coincidence and its passed and I can get on with my rat breeding... :rolleyes:

    Too much fruits and veggies are actually not healthy for rats. Small quantities here and there are ok. Rats are primarily grain feeders.

    I doubt it's the Mazuri. The recall was for having too much vitamin D. It causes loss of appetite and severe weight loss, both which can lead to death. 2 of my females out of the entire colony were affected. I didn't catch the loss off appetite symptom soon enough. But both were very thin when I tried nursing them back to health. They both passed away.

    i only give them 1 grape each and 1 small piece of apple each once or twice a week. what kind of grains are good for them?

    That's odd - as mentioned before it could have been some hereditary issue. Where did your breeding stock come from? Males are known for having sensitive kidneys and rats from lab stock are bred for issues like that.
