Low vents with high vents are far more efficient than an open tops. Misters work great, foggers too but need to be cleaned regularly as they grow bacteria I personally would avoid them as cleaning every day or few days is a pain. Remember humidity is a product of water mass and air flow, substrate and water bowl surface area are the largest factors. Bigger bowls and lager water mass will increase humidity. Royals can tolerate mid 40s with no problems accept during a shed cycle a humid hide can be added at that time to solve humidity issues. High humidity and low air flow is linked to respiratory issues so as VPI say, err or too much air than too little.

Using flexwatt could cause a fire.

Feeding live could hurt your snake.

Driving a car might cause an accident.

Owning a big snake might end with the snake strangling or seriously injuring you.

My point is that accidents happen and not all risks are created equal. I am willing to risk using paper towel as a substrate. I monitor all feedings so substrate ingestion is very unlikely. I am aware that it is a possibility, but I am also not worried that it is going to happen every time I feed my animals. Similarly to how I am not worried about getting into a car accident every time I get into my car. I am aware of the risk.

Eventually I'd like to switch to a kraft paper substrate, but for right now paper towels are what I am sticking with.

    Your choice,
To me everything is managed risk consequence against probability. Driving a car is a calculated risk the gain freedom of mobility and time saving is worth the risk. The gain of paper towel over the 100s of other substrates? nothing. The risk no matter how small to my mind is unacceptable, as there is no gain. All your examples have a clear gain, a big positive but paper towel has no positive over any other substrate. We will never agree on this so I'll drop it. Calculated risk is fine everything is but risk, with but as there is no reason to risk the life of an animal I don't get. I simply don't understand.
