    I have 11" on mine. It's nice because it basically is the size of the hide, so they have a nice toasty spot to lay, that their whole body fits on. Also, I haven't had to turn on the heater in the bedroom yet, and the tubs are at perfect temp. We have each shelf individually wired. I have never used back heat, so no actual experience. But, I would rather have a warm spot to lay on, than try to snuggle up to a wall to get warm. ;)

    You got good info. I use 1' of 11" per level on my 41qt rack.
