One egg bad, worried about others...

What day are you on now?

I lost an egg from my most perfect-looking clutch, but the rest are still fine. And I had another clutch that dimpled badly because I screwed up the humidity (first too little, then too much...), but all of them eventually made it. Do you have a humidity gauge that you can put in the tub with the eggs for a couple hours? That'll really tell you what you need to know...

How was the substrate-less incubation working before you switched back to vermiculite?

They're on day 40, so I've got about two weeks to go! I really hope they hang in there, but I'm losing hope for 2-3 of them...

I have an Acu-rite digital thermometer/hygrometer in there, and it holds steady at 99% for almost a week at a time - then it drops slightly, so I've been adding a little water when that happens. I also double-checked with an analog gauge, which is how I discovered my original Acu-rite was way off (it was only around 70-80% for the first couple of weeks, apparently).

That's when they got really dried out, but I'm not sure if that was due to the bad Acu-rite or the substrate-less method. I switched both around the same time, and it's been pretty good ever since. I think I'll go back to using Hatch-rite next year, though, since I had WAY fewer issues keeping the humidity up with that stuff.

Btw, I got some renewed hope when I was looking through old pics, and saw this egg from my first clutch in 2010 - I called it the "pancake egg," and she was the first snake to slither out! Really didn't think this egg would make it, but she's a healthy 1000g normal girl today (who lives with member "Maddumpling"). :gj:

Yeah, on day 40, there's a good change they'll make it. Don't add any more water. Too wet is more dangerous than too dry at this point. You might try cling-wrapping instead, at least until day 50.

(Actually, since I just said too wet is more dangerous than too dry... I might wait until the day you catch the humidity dropping again, and THEN slap on the cling wrap.)
