That is kind of what I am thinking. I have an adult female that fits the OP's description perfectly. She is just a grouchy ball and I respect her boundaries like you have stated. Not all balls are going to be "friendly" and some will not hesitate to light you up if given the chance, no matter how much you try to "tame" them.
