Thinking about getting a boa as a second snake?

Lol I am going to copy and paste a reply from a similar thread I replied to....

Personally right behind my SD REtics my boas are my favorite snakes..... I love their personalities..... I do have several other pets (birds, cats, dogs, ect and 3 kids) I dont really ever worry about my boas getting out (but all are housed in racks or 4ft locking cages). I do love my boas, but one thing to keep in mind is size.... I know it doesnt happen often but recently a good friend of mine (I have snows and motley het snows from him, and he has some of my blood boas ect) picked up a 6 year old snow female that is pure columbian and pushing 11ft and 60lbs.... so on the rare occasion even Colombians can get big.... But from my experience and the 20+ boas I have they vary rarely have bad attitudes and are usually a joy to be around.....

Another great thing about boas, is so many of the morphs have come down in price where you can buy something cool at a more affordable price....jungles, motley, albino, sunglow, albino motley, all morphs that can be had for less than 500 bucks....

Even a 40 gallon breeder tank would suffice for probably a year.

They don't really 'grow like weeds'.

Right now the only thing i have room to keep one in is a 32qt tub. I realize that i could probably keep one in there for awhile but im not absolutely positive what im doing yet so im trying to ensure i dont get a snake that i have to rehome when it gets too big. :P

Who me? I can't help it boa's are AWESOME! :D. And no, they don't grow near the rate a bp does. Gotta weigh my little guy, but I bet he might only be around 100g. If I remember right last weigh in was around 80. They put on length before girth. He was I think 50 something when I got him. So around 50 grams in about 5 months. (Would have to go home and double check weight and dates). And they really have the greatest personalities....... *loves my boa* :p

So, in everyone's opinion, how different are boas and BP's? Is their only similarity the lack of legs/arms?

Sort of. Husbandry as far as temps is similar. Boas a couple degrees warmer. They eat WAY better. They need bigger enclosures. They typically don't hide. They aren't jumpy. I can have mine out and putter around doing laundry and chores, etc. He just hangs out. I can accidentally bop him in the face, and he doesn't care, doesn't recoil. Doesn't even flinch if I'm hanging up laundry or getting my daughter in the shower. If it were one of my balls, I would be mindful of my movements, as they get spooked. Not him, as long as he has his tail locked onto something he is good to go. He is very "in your face" and curious. Oh, and I didn't realize he was in shed, and had got him out, he didn't even care. My balls would just die if I did that to them. One thing to add about feeding, while mine will eat anything in site, he is quite the derpy eater. 9 out of 10 he eats them from the middle folded in half. Not sure why, but he WON'T let go and look for head. This weekend he spent about 45 minutes fighting with forcing one down folded in half. Got it by the belly and never let go. He won in the end though. :D
