There's actually no evidence at all to suggest it's ever fatal.

I had one egg in a 6 egg clutch go bad this year. It looked perfectly healthy, not a roll out or anything, maybe a bit smaller, but still fertile (I thought). It started visibly discoloring in patches around day 18 or so, had no veins when I candled it on day 20, and was very obviously dead by day 25. It wasn't a roll-out, though---it's actually still attached to one of the healthy eggs.

It happens. They won't all develop properly, every time. Beautiful clutches that have a 100% hatch rate are good luck. On average, if you have several clutches, some eggs will not make it. So far, all tests on turning eggs of several different species have showed no difference in hatch rates from unturned eggs, though, so that part is just a breeder myth. In reality, the experiments would have to be conducted on hundreds of eggs under highly controlled conditions in order to be definitive, but so far, it looks like the theory simply didn't match reality.

Worrying about isn't going to change anything. Try to keep your mind occupied with other, preferably stress free, things in the meantime. If an egg starts going bad you'll know and can then deal with the situation.

This thread is pretty cool for those interested in egg orientation:
