Yeah, the gulps are pretty normal. I was just watching my pastel het pieds pipping this weekend, and they all went through a pretty pronounced heavy breathing stage while still in the egg.
Is he still in the egg? A picture of the umbilicus over his head would be helpful. I wouldn't panic unless everyone is out of the egg tomorrow and he's still in there. If he doesn't exit within 6 hours of the last sibling, then yeah, I'd pull him out and have a look.

Yea i've been trying!!! Stupid picture window on the hovabator makes it a weeeee bit difficult, but the kids keep me busy for most of the day so I really dont look THAT much lol. He's still in the egg, its been almost two days with his head peeking out, at a couple times I thought he was about to crawl into the other piebalds egg, silly guy. Another piebald and a normal looking fella have poked their heads out in the meantime......
jeeze, i thought waiting for the eggs to pip would be the hard part. waiting for them to emerge is killer!

Speaking of the Hovabator.... we noticed at one point the metal wire inside that heats up the hovabator, was hot enough that it burnt my arm. Is it safe to assume that because of this, once a snake emerges fully from the egg we should remove it right away? Or would they be safe inside of the hovabator?

He is no longer under his umbilicus :) I have no idea where it went to actually. Hopefully he will be coming out soon! I cant see any veins on the inside of the egg anymore either...... Im so excited, and so nervous. I definately wish I had more experience with this first clutch having these two beautiful piebalds. But quite frankly we weren't completely expecting the eggs. I just bought the pair of het. pieds a week before she laid, because the owner thought they were no good for breeding but her build and the way she was clumping I knew he had to be wrong!! He should of waited a little longer I guess!

Hi,
If you can't find someway of stopping him coming into contact with that hot wire then yes I would remove them as soon as they leave the egg.

You are right :) He/she is great! And fully out of the egg, not sexed yet though. The white on it is so white it almost looks pink, or blue, depending on the lighting! A pretty little thing though, i'll get pictures soon!

Hi,
That's actually two pied and a normal with a "ringer" - the pied gene would have changed the rest of the body pattern too. :)
But it is still great odds and a crackign looking clutch. :salute:

Yea I just learned that this morning :( But he's still so pretty! So it's all good :D I'm very happy with our first clutch !
