Look at Dave Green's Champagne ringers for crying out loud. I still have trouble believing that oldest girl isn't pied. Partly because I've never seen such an extreme ringer, but also because Champagne really doesn't have a pattern to speak of, so you can't do that " crazy pied pattern" trick with her.

Piebalds have a very washed out sort of watercolor-esque pattern. As you can see, Spot has a very clear crisp pattern with no streaks or orange until you get to her ringer. A lot of people overlook the fact that piebalds have their own distinct pattern- they're not just normal looking ball pythons with white patches. Does that make sense?
