Keep in mind that for "smells", particularly from rotting things, are mostly from lingering oils and small molecules that are very good at hanging around. Bleach is great for sterilizing things, but is actually a pretty poor solvent. Vinegar/baking-soda and dish soap however are great for solubilizing things and scrubbing off oils and grease, while being non-toxic as well.
