You can look up 2012 army navy pay grades via Google. The pay is different depending on ranks

Our pay scale is published each year.

That stuff is confusing. lol. The highest I see is 40 years and $19,239.90. Is there more to that?

It pretty much depends on the rank/time in service is how much you get paid monthly. So if you knew how long he has been in and he's promotion rank (0-4 I believe) you could roughly figure out the pay.
