just fold it to fit. thats it. But you need to get the BP to the vet before anything else. if that plantation soil pine or cedar in it, it could make the snake very ill if not kill it

    Daybreaker
Excessive saliva/bubbles is a sign of an RI, so I too say bring the snake to a vet.

Can you explain your setup more? What is the BP housed in, what are you using for heating, what are your hot and cold side temps and how are you measuring them, etc?

If the snake accidentally took in a mouth full of substrate, it is quite possible that the saliva is a side affect of that. I would monitor the snake closely for a day or two. If the substrate is not present and the snake still has saliva/mucous/bubbles coming from the nose or mouth, or is making a wheezing noise, you need to see a vet. A Respiratory infection can only be treated by antibiotics from a vet.

i have him in a glass 20 gallon tank, the humidity is good and the temp is between 70-75, but i only have a thermometer in between the hot and cold side....should have one on each side? he has a "rock" shaped house on the heated side(which is heated by the heating sheets that stick to the bottom) and his water dish and plant on the cool side. :confusd:

The 20g is probably a bit big for a baby. You can make it work, but it might be worth downgrading.

70 is far too cool to keep your ball python. You need two thermometers. One to measure the ambient temps or "cool side" and one to measure the basking spot or "hot side". If you are using a UTH put the probe underneath the substrate right above the UTH to see the hottest point the snake can get too. Are you using a thermostat to control your Heat source?

Printed newspaper is fine. I like to use paper towel though.

You do need a digital thermometer on both sides. Your hot side should be 89_90 and cool side 81_83. Also he needs 2 hides one on each side.
Since you have it so cold im definetly thinking RI

ok, so i have had him in another container with no plantation soil in it, for the las 2 hrs, and i completely cleaned out his tank and put paper towel on the bottom for now. when i went to put him back in his house, his mouth is now closed fully(his mouth was partially open b4) and has no saliva on the outside, and he seems to look better already. oh and my thermometer was at the top of the tank, but near the bottom of the tank it is warmer............i just hope he is ok, and thanks for everyones help, i am going to call the vet first thing in the morning.
