Will duct tape harm my Snake?

If the tape is already stuck to the outside of the tub then theres no way it could get stuck to the snake. Especially if you monitor handling sessions like a responsible owner should.

I can't see how duct tape OUTSIDE of the cage could be harmful to your snake. You're good to go I believe.

I'm going to have to agree with the people that say "don't do it".

Poop happens. Corner of the tape lifts, snake slides across it when you have it out.....tape is the devil when it comes to snakes.

Not sure what you're trying to do exactly, but there have got to be a dozen safer ways to accomplish it.

You wouldn't put a spike strip around a baby's crib would ya? It's a dum example I know but it gets the point across. If the baby were to get out, it would get hurt. It probably won't get out but there are many stories of babies escaping their cribs, as are there many stories about snakes escaping their enclosures.

If you are responsible then you will limit anything that has a chance of doing any damage to your snakes. That also goes for sharp edges on hides, bins stacked on top of each other that could fall over, and or keeping other pets (eg. cats and dogs) out of the snake room. It's all to prevent problems before they happen, not trying to fix them after they happen.

IMHO no tape on, about, or around the snakes in any faction.

Also to answer the OPs title of the thread. Yes. It will harm your snakes if the sticky side hits scales.

Ive never seen so many overprotective, cautious people lol. I consider myself to be pretty careful when caring for my snakes and would never put them in harms risk on purpose. But i mean this is just too extreme imo. I look like a loose cannon compared to all you guys. Since someone did make a kid comparison that must mean that you also dont let your child leave their bubble bc they could come in contact with germs?
Thats also like saying you shouldnt feed live bc theres a chance your snake could get bit. Yes, there is a chance that a corner of the tape could fold up and get stuck to your snake but to me the chances of that happening are minimal, just like a rodent injury. Id MUCH rather cover the tub in duck tape than spray paint it. If you spray paint it and then take your snake out you better not let it touch the paint bc all of those harmful chemicals will kill it! :rolleyes:

Although tape on the OUTSIDE of the enclosure has very minimal risk, I personally think there are better ways to black out tubs. I personally use black spray paint (the kind used for plastic/outdoor use). I spray the outsides of the sides, back and lid and let it all air dry for at least 3 days or so and will usually give it a good rinse and dry before putting any snakes in there.

People very often use Con-tact paper to black out the sides and backs of tanks and such, I really don't see how that's any different from duct tape. Like some have said as long as the snake can't roll around on it the risk is minimal. I think if you personally would never do it, then that's fine, but state it that way. Don't try and make it sound like it's a "dead snake walking" if you use an adhesive on the OUTSIDE of an enclosure to scare newbies.

Alrighty so,

The way I see it is A. What is this tub even being used for? It was never specified. If it is to A) Be the snake home I would use duct tape IF I had too. I would make sure that I would stop wrapping about an inch from the top of the tub. Make sure that the snake never gets close to it. BUT this is a LAST resort thing only. I would either use A. Spray Paint or B. Acrylic paint from the dollar store..... So B. If this is a transportation or temporary holding tub then I see no problem with the duct tape as long as the snake is not aloud to move freely against the outside of said tub. Just make sure its a straight in and out deal.
