My wife has been and still is completely scared of snakes. She even hates to see worms because they look like small snakes to her because snakes give her the heebie jeebies...no joke. However, she loves our ball pythons almost as much as me. She takes care of them when I'm not there, helps with stuck sheds on the few times it has happened, helps me feed them, changes their substrate and water when needed. BPs are pretty docile animals and once you are around them they are very hard to hate. Here is a pic she took of herself with HER pinstripe and letting my pastel hang out with her:

Re: New and scared
Thank you! Yea I was really wanting a female for her breeding (possible albino/ghost) but she was really jumpy and I was to freaked out to hold her. Plus she was younger so it would take some working with. My husband really wanted the spider, and after my 8 yr old held him I calmed down. I like him. Hubbs is really excited cuz he wanted a spider from the get go.
More pics to come! (once settled in)

I have come along way. They are my babies now! Kaa likes to lay on the bed with me. LuLu is still about 6 wks old but she's getting better are handling. My 2 yr old Loves to hold the baby (LuLu) as she calls her.

Anyways, I started reading about them and looking into different morphs. I'm kind of leaning towards a butter ghost IF I CAVE AND LET HIM GET ONE.
My question is, does anyone have any advice for me the first time possible owner?
My girlfriend was the same way when we got our first snake, Monty Python. She knew I had them as a kid and loved them and she wanted to try again. When we brought him home he was just a few months old. She wouldn't hold him the first day. She was holding him within the first week, and now is inseparable with him. She holds him daily and he is her snake. We have grown now to 9 snakes and will soon be 10 and are breeding and we both love the ball pythons.
My advice (from her): get a small snake that you can grow with, and slowly work yourself into handling them. They are peaceful creatures who are not ever aggressive, but can be fearful. A well handled ball python is one of the most gentle pets out there, and I truly believe they bond with their owner.
Hope that helps!

Gratz on getting over your fear of these beautiful animals! They look nice.
One concern, a 55g cage is a little to big even for an adult, and it is not recommended to house them togeather unless you are currently breeding them. What looks like cuddling is often fighting over the best spot and if one gets sick the other one is very likely to catch it was well.
