    My snake 'removed' all substrate from the UTH area, which made me think it's not warm for him enough...?

    Do you have a thermometer with a probe? Guessing temperatures is the worst thing you can do. You need to know exactly how hot/cold your cage is. Otherwise it's just a matter or time before something bad happens.

    Moving substrate can mean many things. No way to say for sure exactly what.

    If the UTH is unregulated then I gaurentee it isn't too cold... They can get up to 42 degrees Celsius (which is hot enough to cause neurological damage) in under 2 hours.

    My bet is that the "cross" you are seeing is just a crease in the eye cap that will come off when he sheds. Keep your humidity up and regulate/check your temps as Aaron already suggested, and he will shed in the next couple of days. Do NOT attempt to soak him right now, it will cause a bad shed.
