Quick question regarding keeping snakes venomous/non-venomous snakes in Illinois?

Seems like a state violating the rights of its people, namely the fourth ammendment (if we could agree that pets fall under the category of "effects", or one's personal possessions). Do you know if there has been any attempt to appeal the law since it was passed? Do you know the actual statute?

As far as I know (as an IL resident) "poisonous" is just their way of referencing venomous reptiles. There aren't any permits for pets. The only person I know with a venomous reptile is caring for it in conjunction with an educational permit.

I do not know the actual law or if anyone is doing anything about it... Here is the Florida fish and wildlife site that says they are illegal to own

Thanks for posting that. And I say 4th ammendment because if you didn't go register your snakes so that you could continue to own them they would be illegal to keep and taken if discovered. As a soldier serving in the Army and with multiple combat tours I find it funny that certain states still take away the same freedoms from their citizen that I defend! I hate politics so much it isn't funny.

I completely agree, and the worst part is that they have no good reason or bother finding out the truth about these animals and the actual threats they pose. (or lack there of)

I completely agree with you. The legislation always end up being someone's knee jerk reaction to a bad situation (i.e. burms in the glades) and a politician who needs to sponsor or co-sponsor a bill so that they can add something that they've done to their resume'! Then HSUS and PETA see it as an opportunity to save all the "poor, defenseless animals" from becoming pets in the first place so they throw their support behind it, and our small comminuty becomes defenseless against these superpowers at stopping the legistlation from being passed (i.e. the national ban on interstate transfer or trade of the big 4). Of course the biggest punch in the crotch for us is that no one has EVER been caught and cited for releasing a burmese python into the Everglades, but of course that fact always fails to appear in the political discourse.
