I know it's gonna sound bad but do not buy an animal because you feel sorry for it.

By doing so you do nothing more than encouraging this behavior, once this one is sold another one that will go through the same thing will likely be for sale too.

You should not support an individual or a business that neglect their animal by giving them your money/business.

Sadly you cannot save them all.

Agreed. I would not buy it. It looks like geckos I've seen with advanced cryptosporidium (sp*) poor little snow. :( breaks my heart.

I would not pay to rescue it, and would probably avoid even bringing it into my home with other reptiles. I love leopard geckos, and it breaks my heart to see this, but they can get a disease, I cannot remember the name, but it prevents them from absorbing nutrients (I think) and they lose their appetite. This looks to be in an advanced stage of disease, and I personally think it should simply be put out of its misery. If you can get it for free, then you can try rescuing it, but I personally don't think it has much of a chance.

Given the age of the gecko and the condition it is in, I could easily see it having numerous problems down the road even if it did start to recover and put on weight. Getting to that point, at any stage in life, stresses the organs, causes them to shut down, creates a toxic build-up of certain chemicals in the body... Basically, it has already done so much damage that there's a good chance this gecko would suffer long after it 'recovered'. I would expect it's life expentency to suffer as a result.

I also agree with the 'Don't buy it' vote. I know it sounds horrible, but I feel like this little guy is already gone. I agree with the poster that said this one is the worst they've seen. It's the worst I've seen too.

If the animal dies in that person's care, then perhaps they'll realize that they caused that.

At the end of the day, we can try and help all the animals, but sometimes we need to step back and ask ourselves if helping it IS the right thing to do.

In this case, I would definitely send out some loving prayers to this little guy, but I think it's too late for him.

It can be done. I have save a few leos that were in that shape before. I have also lost one as well. But some of the best things to do is to keep them on paper use tongs to feed them try crickets and make sure you get them lots of water. I personally have used the power and mixed it into boiling water, let cool and gave them that. to help aid in getting something back into them. seemed to help although how much not sure but i was able to recover a few with that. Plus hand feeding and TONs of TLC.

As sad as the situation is I myself have seen many stories of animals in pets stores and forums that people want to buy and rescue form neglect, greed or laziness but the truth is if you give someone money for a neglected animal then you are supporting that behavior and they will probably do it more. I don't wan't to sound callous but I have seen he same scenario over and over again with different animals and concerned animal lovers. If that poor gecko dies on the person maybe they may actually find some iota of sympathy in their heart and learn how to care properly for them. Hope I don't get in trouble for this: I agree with ^ However I have actually just taken animals from people that wanted to sell a dying pet. I tell them what the problem with it is and that it is on deaths door and i'm not paying for the animal but I will take it and do my best to get it on its way to recovery. Most people will simply say ok but there has been a few that i threatened to bring in the spca or animal control and just took the animal. Surprisingly They don't try and stop me. I do not suggest that anyone do this as it can lead to serious legal issues but I personnaly am willing to take that chance on severe cases

:( Poor little gecko. My Uncle was sold a gecko without looking at it, and the setup too for £40. When he got it home, he said it didnt look right, took it to our local reptile store and they said it had Cryptosporidiosis. It had unusual black marks on its belly, its eyes were barely even there and it had pencil tail. It died a few days later :( Was very sad.

well i e-mailed and texted the people but they never responded i hope he isnt suffering anymore though thanks everyone for your opinions

Sad to see, but I have always been against lending your money or support to anyone, individual or pet shop, that keeps animals this way.

They are ignorant, or scumbags. Or both.
