    I will definitely look in to one of those thermostats! I unplugged the heat pad for now and made the aspen layer thinner for the future. I am just afraid if I don't use the heating pad at all he won't have enough belly heat.

    Thank you for your help! I am eager to get his husbandry perfect.

    In the wild they don't get "belly heat" all heat comes down from above. It can warm up a rock or something to provide belly heat, but so can your heat lamp.

    I wouldn't worry too much about it for now, but getting a good thermostat is a good idea.

    The striking was probably just a feeding response. If possible, you should feed him a small rat once a week instead of three mice.

    Also, I think a 75g is kinda overkill for a ball python...
