I live in a 1 bedroom apartment, and own a carpet python. At most a carpet python will need a 4'x2'x2' cage. They are slender bodied and nothing compared to something like a Red Tailed Boa of the same length. If size is an issue get an IJ or Jungle carpet. They stay smaller. it is only the Coastals that really get big.

Get a king snake and hold a rat or snake right before handling if you want some fun trying to avoid getting your fingers swallowed.

I used to have a pair of everglades rat snakes, Good sized animals (over 6 feet as adults) with loads of attitude, they're also very attractive bright orange snakes. I traded them in years ago because I got tired of bleeding every time I cleaned their cages (even wearing gloves, I swear they knew the difference and aimed for the part of the arm that wasn't covered) They were a lot of fun though, sometimes wish I still had them.

Some Blood Pythons I have handled were nasty little devils. No matter how many times I handled them, they kept on striking. Haha.

A female Desert Ball Python has plenty of attitude and they don't get too big.
