Just found some helpful info on the body temperatures of mice and rats:
Mice: 98.4 degrees F
Rats: 100-103 degrees F
I figure if you're new to snakes--like me--and paranoid, again, like me--you can warm them up and check their temperatures with a temp gun!

Simple Man
Ziplock loosely sealed on the heat tape next to the tub an hour or two before feeding. Usually makes a smell that gets them all sorts of excited to eat. I feed live to all my pythons but had a recent acquisition of 1.1 pair of Albino hognose. I am going to try to stick with F/T for them. Used this method when I kept just a few ball pythons and it has worked with the hogs already. Good luck!
Regards,
B

Nice! Thanks for the info. I will definitely keep it in mind when I get the temp gun
