Kony 2012

Have you guys seen the Invisible Children music video made by the "leaders" of the movement? :rolleyes:

1) Who knows what happened to Jason Russell? The guy may have had a mental breakdown, or, for all we know, has some horrible African parasite that migrated into his brain. (Which is really altogether too likely, if you think about it).

2) Kony's never been apprehended, the army's still there, and the last word on him was that he was hiding out. What's the basis for presuming him dead? What's more, if he's dead, but the army's still kidnapping kids and killing people, who's in charge now? That doesn't merit any further thought?

3) I don't personally understand why people are confused by the video. I've seen some of the criticisms, and found them to be largely baseless. It doesn't say Kony is in Uganda. In fact, it uses nifty map animation to show where the army went, and states several times that he isn't. It doesn't say 30,000 kids are in that army--it says that's the approximate number that have been abducted. People confused about that need to take meds for their ADD. Especially the media. Honestly, what's wrong with folks these days that they can't pay attention through a half hour film?

It shows Uganda in recovery, which it is. The Ugandan government officials are divided as to whether they think the video is good or bad. If they can't decide, why so many who are quick to do so from over here?

Skip, it doesn't sound like anyone actually knows anything...just a lot of speculation. I suppose if you want to be a true cynic, you'll dismiss it all.

Nothing in history has ever gone down perfectly. The question is whether you think the end result will be worthwhile.

I think it's something better to fight over than oil, personally. Your mileage may vary..hah.

I just put it out there, to let folks decide for themselves. I didn't figure 'gee, we should go take out this horrible, rapacious rebel leader who's wanted for hideous, unspeakable acts against children' would be a controversial statement, but...I guess I was wrong, lol.

Since kony last struck in uganda in '05 there is a chance hes already dead. Similar to how many thought Osama was dead after awhile. Kony Has been doing this for 30 years so if people really cared they would have started awhile ago. Invisible Children is BS. They are a for profit company, not a charity. They only donate a small amount of the money. The money they donate has to be given to the ugandan army first. That army has done things just as bad as the LRA. I highly doubt theyre spending the money on the kids. Im sure while he was drunk and masturbating in public he was totally thinking about all the ugandan children though...

Yep, it all sucks--so, what are you doing about it? The point of the video is to raise awareness in order to demand action.

As for the poor guy who had a breakdown, there's no statement that alcohol was involved, in fact it's been denied several times. It's great to claim he was just drunk and acting out, but it's more likely he was so severely dehydrated that he was delirious. That seems to be one of the more common conclusions. My money's still on the brain parasite.

Honestly, I don't care whether people want to criticize the entire thing and call it garbage. I don't think anyone disagrees that the LRA should be stopped...and now they know what it is. So, it's all good. Mission accomplished. Do the ends justify the means? Usually.

Ok thats great but the people whose awareness that is being raised are going to donate to invisible children. Which wouldnt help the situation since invisible children is still bs.

The argument isn't really about whether or not Kony is alive or dead or what he's done. It's about why the heck should WE get involved. And why is this video just being made NOW?

It's pretty clear to me that the video was made as propaganda first and foremost. If the intent was to truly help, it would have been made 10 or 20 years ago, not now. Now whose propaganda is still unclear. Certainly Invisible Children stands to make millions at the least in "donations."

There's also the angle that Uganda is now a big oil player. So if we go in to help then maybe we can persuade them into selling us cheap oil.

The US doesn't go into other countries just to help. There has to be a benefit to be gained. History tells us this.

There are dozens of nations with crazy dictators around the world that are as bad if not worse than this Kony gentleman. Where's the outcry to take out Hugo Chavez? Or the Kim Jung Il heir? The guy from Iran whose name I'm too lazy to look up the spelling? It's not like we've never heard of those guys. With exception of the brainwashed North Korea, I'm sure most of the citizens in those places would love us to go in there and kill those guys and replace their governments.

But, it doesn't benefit us to do so. Not yet anyways.

I think this is just a difference of opinions. Were not gunna be able to change eachothers minds. I still wholeheartedly respect your opinion though and understand what youre saying, i just disagree.

Jason Russell wasn't the main guy pushing the Kony 2012 movement? That's news to me but, I have been wrong before.

Some people are easily fooled by a youtube video and even when theres much more evidence showing that this issue isnt even relevent in that country anymore. No point in arguing.

Countless people are kidnapped, raped, tortured in Mexico every year. WHERES THEIR HELP? Oh yeah, no oil/governments take in drug cartels.

This is just propaghanda to get people to support another, "Liberation of a nation." With most Americans believing whatever sappy video on youtube its easy.

Invisible Children is a corrupt Christian Organization who pockets most of the money donated and the very little money they put in to Kony 2012, is used to fund an army, that not only has child soldiers, but has been accused of rape/kidnappings. Keep in mind this is not the Ugandan Army but another military group, whose firm beliefs include that all homosexuals caught in the act twice should be executed. This military group was chosen not because they hate Kony, who has since disappeared/died, but because they are, "better equipped, " and that is in the words of Invisible Children.

Make him famous? Donating and raising awareness is literally doing nothing.
