Reptaid Question

As others have stated, for a captive bred ball python that is set up correctly, there is no real need to use something such as the rept aid.

To be fair, it can be quite effective with lizards, in particular chameleons, which it was designed for. I have seen numerous customers (as well as used it myself at home) with animals that have turned around after using it.

For your ball python, though, it's probably unnecessary. :)

I have used this product a couple of times, it wasn't preventative, as I used it to treat respiratory infections in a rack that heat was shut off to start cooling. When my space heater in the snake room failed, all snakes in that rack got down to about 68. Of the eleven in that rack, 6 developed from a very minor to one that had a severe respiratory infection.

I treated all with the reptaid xl, for ten days as described on the packaging. Within about 3 days half were acting 100% back to normal, 2 were great after the full treatment. The last and most severe case was treated twice per there directions, so after about 20 days, she was starting to act better but wasn't super. She started looking like she was going to shed towards the end of the second round of treatments. So I held off, as soon as she finished her shed she acted perfect and has since.

I have used it since then on a few animals here and there, with mixed results on respiratory infections and it seems that they do great after you get them eating again. If they aren't eating it seems to take awhile longer for it to help.

Those are my results with it, take it for what it is, but I would recommend it. Especially when there are extremely limited exotic vets around. And waiting a week or two for an appointment is not acceptable.

Thanks!! this is good since this is a different opinion from the others... it is also good to know that this is not preventive.
