Yeah, now that I think of it. I cant see myself not owning one either.. and I've only been in the hobby since October.
My ball python story? I had visited an old friend's house a few times over last Summer and he had recently gotten a new pet ball python. I handled him once and I remember immediately later that day, I said that I wanted to get one. Never did I think it was a reality that I actually could get one, nor did I think my parents would allow it, but sure enough I talked my way into it and now Ive got five :) We'll see if its still five in a few years tho LOL
I remember specifically, the fact that their scales were so shiny and clean, and their muscles would react in a "wave" motion if you stroked them, and his colours even as a normal were amazing. The fact that I was holding a snake, which is usually perceived to be exotic or dangerous, and it was being so tame and inquisitive, it really made me want to get one. I have also been allergic to dander from dogs and cats for all my life so we have never been able to get a pet for the house, so being able to interact freely with snakes and other reptiles is great.
Re: What made you want to get a BP?
My dad had always loved snakes when he was younger, and so whenever he caught a snake outside, he would show it to me and my sisters then let us take the snake back to where we found it outside so it could go back to its family. All those years of snake searching and catching made me want to have a snake in my family, but my mom was never too thrilled about snakes. Eventually, after three years, my mom said i could get my ball python. So for a whole summer, i cut my grandpa's lawn and took that money and the money i saved up for the past three years to buy a yellowbelly male named Pax :) And then my first snake led to my second snake, a normal male, that i adopted and that one led to my yellowbelly female and then now i recently bought a normal female.
