My old boy I have had for 4 years now I was given him by a friend who was no longer able to care for him due to illness. He had him for 12 years and he rescued him from someone and he was an adult when he arrived.
That makes him at least 17 years and 18 - 20 is more likely.
Aaron's comment on the 48 year old Royal is true but the missing bit of info was this animal lived in the zoo for 48 years but arrived as a breeding female... so at least 48 but again likely at least two years old when she arrived and likely 3 +...
