Re: What is the best Thermostate or Herpstat
the overall accuracy is the same! i have an old one and a new one. the new ones have that incubator mode and just display tenths of a deg. display resolution is different from overall rated accuracy. nice to have more features though.

Re: What is the best Thermostate or Herpstat
ooh ok. so the old ones won't show the tenth of a degree at all. that's fine. i have a new one too that i got from matt and then i recently bought these two older ones used. it's all good. :)
Re: What is the best Thermostate or Herpstat
Vaughn I am currently running tests in my incubator run by a herpstat and using a Cooper SH66A-E 3 zone thermistor, I had it calibrated at 87.0 degrees
and per calibration reads 86.9 @ 87 .0 degrees within 1/10th of a degree.
My herpstat registers exactly 87.0 as the cooper registers 86.9 DEAD ON! and very consistant at keeping that temp within .02 degrees
Not that most snakes or eggs require that kind anally retentive control Its nice to know what you controller is really doing ..Plus I have some special eggs on the way .. I have also tested a DBS-1000 and it fluctuates 1.5 -2.0 degrees per the cooper
Re: What is the best Thermostate or Herpstat
that really good info rob, i haven't decided which thermocouple thermometer i want to buy yet. i was looking at the fluke series 51-II it is rated at +/- .5 deg F for 150 bucks. was the cooper nist certified and what is the ul listed rated accuracy for it, how much did you pay for it, where at? i'm always looking at good thermometers! that is the hvac tech in me! it is nice to see you have a good thermometer to measure and calibrate with!

Re: What is the best Thermostate or Herpstat
I got mine here http://www.techinstrument.com/acatal...hermister.html ( third one down)
They have been really great to work with, they are building specific bare tipped probes for us reptile folks instead of the ones shown for no extra cost
The Unit I have is not nist certified but has been calibrated and tested and was found to be within .01 calibrated at 87.0 degrees The unit can also be run off of a 9v power supply
I figured being an HVAC the information would interest you.
Re: What is the best Thermostate or Herpstat
that's good info rob, for work +/- of 1 deg is fine. no one's home is that precise. but i'm anal about my reptile temps, so i looking for the most accurate thermocouple thermometer at the best price. i'lll check that site out!

Re: What is the best Thermostate or Herpstat
hey rob, that thermometer looks great! i think that is the one damon's using
on his albino chondro eggs! check out this site http://www.streck.com/products/qc/tempchex.asp
they are basically little thermometers sealed in glass vials with fluid made to measure incubator temps. sealed in they don't bounce when you open and close the door, nist certified, .1 deg divisions, and around 40-50 shipped! i've been thinking about these also. i don't think we need anything this precise but if your anal about temp measurement like me, it is good to have.

Re: What is the best Thermostate or Herpstat
It is infact the same unit Damon is using ,I bought mine on Damons advice and knowing Damon and how much of a perfectionist he is I knew I couldent go wrong with the unit Those temp-chex look interesting, might have to try one out..
And yes I am anal about my incubation temps also about my herp temps but eggs drive me completly batty when I have them in the incubator
Re: What is the best Thermostate or Herpstat
rob, i forgot to ask about the special eggs on the way? can you give us some info?
