"Reptiles do not want to be your friend. They want to be left alone."

    That's odd.
Somebody should tell my male pastel who goes into full throttle sulking and bargain basic histrionics if I don't pay attention to him when I walk by his house...or the BCI who makes me wrestle him back into his condo because he doesn't 'want to be a snake again' after a few hours of watching TV with the humans.

I was just quoting what was said in the article. I know no one "needs" a pet. I don't care if my neighbor has an anaconda..I don't care what kind of animal they own. I just would never own one. =) I am not frowning upon owning anacondas. It's just my personal preference not to own one.

Alright, I guess I just read your post the wrong way. This is the part that kind of threw me:

"I agree with her statement, "Who 'NEEDS' a pet anaconda?" I know she also said boas and pythons, but those are okay in my eyes. Anacondas are massive snakes and I honestly don't see the point in owning one."

But as long as no flack is given I'm okay! :D

My three favorite parts of the article were:
1.) They made this massive jump from large constrictors to venomous (but hey at least they got venomous right instead of calling them poisonous), it's not a very logical jump since a bite from my boa MAY require a band aid but a bite from a viper is going to need a trip to the hospital. They are two different cans of worms and shouldn't be lumped together, though neither is a public safety risk.
2.) I LOVE how they say we ship reptiles in boxes labeled "auto parts" and they almost always arrive dead. That actually made me laugh. Why would anyone bother shipping a reptile if there was a 99% chance it would arrive dead?
3.) I think the best part about the article was the insulation that captivity = instant suffering and neglect. I'll admit that my tubs may be dirty for a day sometimes because I have too much going on, but I would be happy to show anyone my collection at any time. I take pride in their care and do my best by them. :rage:

Hopefully anyone with half a brain who reads that will be able to clearly see how biased and untrue the article is. :(

I feel sorry for Florida about the problem there. What good is any type of legislation like this going to do for any place other than Florida? I don't understand how anyone could think that a Federal "Ban" would solve the problem. These incredible animals can't survive in the wild in all US states. So what is there to prove? Take the money that is being wasted by trying to force this nationwide and develop other means of control in FL. As far as PETA goes, the entire organization reminds me of the nosey old lady that lives in everyone's neighborhood that is never satisfied with anything and has to put her 2 cents in on everything. I'm not denying there is cause for concern but let's be realistic about this. And as far as Ms.Jennifer goes, well, she seems like one of those people who would beat the war drums for any cause before doing any research.:snake:

Yeah I guess I could have been more clear with that statement! I could easily see how you read it wrong.

But yeah I personally wouldn't own one and I don't care who ones one so long as they are being taken care of properly! =D

THIS!! We need more people like this within the community...

How can one who owns a exotic say "Well this guy doesn't need a Anaconda, but I have a Burmese" It makes NO SENSE One of the reasons we keep failing is because we throw each other under the bus to protect our own selfs.. Well, when everyone else is thrown under the bus who'g going to protect you?

(this was NOT a personal attack to who you quoted.. It is a statement...

Yeah, oh they are calling out USARK to, just look at the revenue difference.
USARK revenue for 2011: $312 Thousand
HSUS revenue for 2011: $148.7 Million
PETA revenue for 2010 (couldn't find 2011 number): $35.9 Million

With such a pathetic budget USARK is still making a difference. Now if we can just get the all the reptile breeder/hobbyist in support with a small donations every month we could really stop The AR madness.
