    Yes in tanks hides are a MUST. small cat litter pans will be good for girls or males in the 1000-2000g range

    i definitely forgot to add that i am also using racks for all my snakes.

    What I Do
    I've had luck with giving them options. If you have a tank, instead of tubs and a rack system, you want them to feel secure anyway, so I've in the past stuffed in a variety of sizes. After some time, the snake seems to favor certain ones over others.

    So without removing the small hide, if you have room, offer a larger hide and see if he/she takes to it.

    I mean, can you really ever have too many hiding spots?
