Satomi, that is not a lethal yellow (also known as dominant red). They do not exist in this country out side of about 3 breeders, who keep them very tightly in check.

The mouse is a recessive yellow, or an undermarked brindle, and is also satin. Recessive yellow is also prone to obesity. :gj:

    and if we're having a fat contest. . . How about these 2? ;)
The gray (beige brindle) one now weighs 100 grams. The orange (argente) one passed away.

Really? I was taught they were the same thing in my lab animal course. Thay recessive yellow was also called lethal yellow. Thanks for the correction. I'll keep that in mind.

WOAH! Those are some fat mice..lol.. I got him from a local store/breeder. He's a good little guy just lazy. ;) I did however have 2 previous ones from him, 1 hit almost 90 grams, the other hit 125. Sadly both died..

Do you have a link to a thread or site I can learn more info on types of rats and mice?

Satomi - Yep. Ay/- is lethal yellow/dominant red and e/e is recessive yellow/recessive red. Ay/Ay mice (homozygous lethal yellow) die. But both are prone to obesity, as are a lot of the red breeds. Strange though that it seems to have nothing to do with the amount of red, or pheomelanin.

Zeion - To learn about mouse genetics you can use this site here: http://www.hiiret.fi/eng/breeding/varieties/breeds.html

(Clicking the I II III IV V etc will change the section of mice you are looking at)

You can also join my forum here: www.themouseconnection.org
Its a new forum, but you'll find that any questions you have about mice, will be answered drama free, lol. :)
