Starting a Co-Dom project, need advice.

Well, if you already have a breedable Mojave male, I'd take my $1000 and invest in 1 or 2 breeding or near breeding size single gene females. You can get yellowbellies for a pretty fair price, maybe a cinnamon or even a pinstripe.

Mojave-bellies, Kingpins and Savannahs all command good prices. One season of double gene offspring will give you enough to invest in that double gene male and another female or two.

Have you bred before? I not I'd go with a single multi gene female ivory super pastel or bel, that way you don't get normals. If you have bred before I'd go with multiple single gene females. One clutch could turn into 3 4 5 or more new snakes you have to care for before selling. And 4 clutches can turn into 16 20 or even more snakes to care for. Going from 4 to 24+ snakes to care for can become over whelming. Good luck which ever way you choose to go.:D

Actually you have a good point. I have bred before, but I have always done so as a hobbyist. I was into the ball python scene back in 2004-2006 then sold my collection when my daughter was born in 2006 due to time and space constraints. The reason I got back into it was because my son, who is turning 10, asked me if he can have one as a pet (he never knew I had a small collection when he was 4). So I got him a Mojave male, because I knew back then one of my dream snakes was the BEL. So since then I've picked up a Mojave female and 2011 Pied Female (another dream snake back then). So now I'm thinking, it may be more worthwhile to have less clutches with more variation. It's just hard not to get hooked, as most of you know!

If you already have a pied female why not pickup a male pied and like 2-3 100% het pied females and produce a bunch of pieds...? You said theyre one of your dream snakes.

It was one of my dream snakes, which is why I bought her, that doesnt mean I want to produce a bunch of them. I simply wanted to own one.

Just curious do you know any combos you want to work towards?

There are so many combos that make my head spin, but I wanted to keep it basic, mainly because I feel they would be easier to sell and more affordable for people starting out.

I like Bumble Bees and Pewters most, Spinners/Blasts have to grow on me.

Well just made the first purchase of this project today, a female spinner, hoping the weather cooperates within the next couple weeks to clear shipping. I figured a female spinner would have the "pattern" genes, and maybe a pewter male as a candidate.
