Axanthics and Hets

The albinos are just called"faded albinos". As mentioned, the normals start off looking like nice axanthics and after a couple of shed look normal.

Here is a pic of my VPI Axanthic Pastel next to a Pastel het VPI. These are around 600-800 grams.

Most lose the "blue" color as they grow. My girl seems to be keeping it, but the Pastel gene is dirtying her up.

They aren't anywhere close to 500 grams at 8 months old. The biggest of the 3 is 340 grams. I'd bet they started getting colored in within 3 months of age...

Anyway, cool to know that they may be the faded albino hets, but still not what I wanted...I don't like albinos.

From what I understand if they are that "faded albino" morph they would have changed to no longer look axanthic within 3 sheds tops. Sounds like yours lasted longer than that so must be something different (new?). BTW, the name "faded albino" goes back to when they were believed to be a variation of the albino gene. My understanding from the post I can't seem to find is that it's since been proven to be a separate gene that just happens to be seen in some albino projects and the combo produces a nice looking albino. If yours are that quick change axanthic line there is no guarantee they are also het for albino.

Randy you're thinking of Blush albino. Look that up and you'll have better results finding threads. There is also at least one thread on fauna concerning them.

They are the albinos that hatch visual hets that appear axanthic for awhile.

@Clark.. I bet you got het blush albinos. Keep and breed those guys to prove it!! They're worth more since their hets hatch visual!
