tape it to the heat tape itself, then you measure the temp inside the cage and adjust until it's where you want it.
*edit* sweet picture lol

To secure any probes, use hot glue :) NEVER tape.
Re: taping up holes on tubs
[QUOTE=LGray23;1729133]If you're worried about taping the outside of the tub, you could always put a small square of tape and attach it to the longer piece of tape to keep the area exposed in the hole smooth like the non-adhesive side of the tape. Does that make sense? You know like when you stick tape together, except only stick it to the area where it's exposed....QUOTE]
Thats pretty much the same as what I said to do lol. I guess I'm easily overlooked :( lol

You use hot glue to secure the probe to the SUBSTRATE?

No...you should be reading temps on the hottest part of the enclosure, which would be the FLOOR of the enclosure...not the SUBSTRATE lol :P

Tape over them from the outside. If any snake can manage to get parts of his body stuffed down into one of the little vent holes he is a talented snake indeed.
If you're still concerned that he's going to be able to do it, you can easily cover the tape from the inside with the fine dusty stuff that sifts out of almost any aspen substrate. I don't bother. Even the uber insane Darth Jackass hasn't managed to tape himself to the half dozen holes I covered over on the front of his bin.
This. If the snake is capable of sticking his body through the holes to be able to reach or get stuck to the tape, the holes were too big to begin with, and you'd have bigger issues, such as getting a head stuck in the hole itself, or an escaped snake :P
We tape up hatchling tubs to hold in more humidity, and as they eat a few meals, have their first couple sheds, etc, the holes get opened up.
