Enclosure Question

My boyfriend built a 6x2x3 enclosure from melamine wood, with swinging glass window doors and plexiglass viewing windows. It has a glass panel part on the bottom for a hot spot as well as a branch "tree" for climbing and access to a heat lamp bask spot too.

Sorry, had to brag about his awesome work a little, it was impressive. :D

is a redtail boa a bad pet snake? I was just wondering because I might get one.

They are excellent pets as long as you have the money, space, time, and know-how to take care of a pretty big snake.

Mine was being kept in a Christmas tree storage box which I think WalMart has already put away in the stockroom for the year :( so temporarily, he's living in a 40 gallon breeder tank with a quadruple lock & key wooden lid.

He seems content and it's not 'rainforest steamy" like his tub was.

I intend to eventually make him a split level condo like we did for the Dumerils Boa.

My question is, is it okay for me to keep the tank in the living room where my dogs are?

The other dogs disregard his existence but the Dobermann has a "fish fetish" and thought I'd gotten another aquarium set up again and examined him.

He's never seen a snake before so he studied him for a while and is now asleep on my hip, as usual.

Will the dogs being here stress him out too much?

I put closed cell foam squares under the tank corners to try and minimize the vibrations of the 100 pound Dobe jumping all over the place and though I could see the water in the snake's bowl moving a bit, the snake just curled up in the corner and is apparently asleep.

He's not using his hides....could it be because he's never had them before?

If he doesn't "need" them like my BPs do, I could remove them and give him more sprawling space.
[he's rather on the smallish side at about 5 years of age]

I'm used to my BPs having mini-strokes every time something moves and don't want to project their paranoia onto him.

FWIW, the Dumerils could have a bomb go off beside her condo and not even twitch a scale.

Is this living situation potentially stressful for him?

I very much want him to be where I can see him all the time but not at the expense of his overall welfare.
