High White Russian Blue babies

Oddly enough I got a very very light blue in my russian blue litter. I'm assuming they carry american blue too. I'll have to get photos so you guys can tell me.

But I'm working towards BEW and using the minimally marked russian blue and black rats to do so. One thing to look out for is MC in your ratties. They may die before weaning or up to about 40 days?

I'm working on breeding out the color of my babies. I have the parents, babies, and now the babies babies. :)



And here is a litter I'm buying from someone else so that I can get to BEW faster. I believe there are already bew's in that litter

Even if you breed a pure white BEW X a pure white BEW there is always a chance the babies will be marked :gj:

The litter looks like it could be all BEW :gj:

I've read about BEW's and mega colon, we have made many litters of BEW's and have never had MC :confused:

I first tried for a bew litter back in 2009-2010 and wound up with MC. I used a blazed and husky.

My whole litter had it.

So far, I'm at generation 3 and everything is going great, knock on wood!

So far, I've noticed blazed might be to blame more-so than just plain high whites. I think it also depends on how you're making high whites. Maybe using hooded rats, or other rats not known to carry MC is better?

I want to get some c/c bew and make some be siamese :) <3

That litter is all BE. But They are marked so I don't think they are considered BEW. BEW is all white with black eyes, no?

I'm not all the smart about rats ( other than what sizes ky snakes eat :rolleyes: ) but I've been told I got some pretty neat ones. Anyway, all the rats pictured in this thread are super cute!

Yes, both parents of the litter are BEW, all the offspring appear to be BEW (some with dalmatian spotting) except the masked guy, he is a surrogate.

There is only one gene that makes mega colon as far as I know, and that's the dominate trait high white.
You can breed recessive high white until your blue in the face and you will not make a MC baby ever.
All blazes are the result of the high white gene, the other genetics in the rat have nothing to do with mega colon just the high white gene.

No BEW's are not all white, in fact most are not all white, and yes the whole litter is BEW.
The gene covers up other colors or at least tries to.
As far as I know all masked rats are BEW's, the gene just fails to completely turn the coat white.

The comment you make about using hooded rats is probably why many large breeders use hooded rats
