    Re: Rack with lids?
I was about to create a post similar to this and here it is bumped right at the top of the forums for me...

I'm in the middle of building a rack for 41 Qt Sterilite bins. The lids on these things lock on the ends, but in the middle I am able to raise the lid to a snake-sized gap with maybe 10 lbs of pressure. Does anyone have specific experience with that bin or have any suggestions about homemade locks for the mid-section of each bin? I'm not even super concerned about the snake escaping, so much as pushing the lid with its nose far enough to get it pinched between the lid and the lip of the bin.

I don't see why you couldn't drill through the lid and bin in the center of the side edges, and put a small padlock or something similar through the holes.

compression strap? I keep binder clips on the tubs I have with small snakes but I don't think that would work with adults they are too strong.

All of my racks have been built to accommodate tubs with the lids. When I first started keeping animals I loved the ease of just pulling out a tub and cleaning quickly. That was until I had an escape from what seemed like an inescapable rack. The wife wanted lids after that and I agreed. To this day there has not been one escape on my watch with lids on!

As for securing the middle section of a 41qt tub I use the metal clips from the glass aquarium tanks. They work really well and fit perfectly. It does take some adjustment on the rack though because they stick up about 1/4-1/2 inch off the top.

I plan to use tubs with lids, when I get around to building my rack. I like the idea of added security, and safety for the snake. Also I won't have to use the straps to secure tubs anymore, when the rack shelves keep the lids pressed down.

That is a reason I like my set up , no worries about escapees.

It is nice . It can be a little time consuming, but I can change an fit a verity of tubs. Not the cheapest thing to build. But I actually got it cheap then added more shelves.
